Ted Ruchty has been building dairy facilities and other post frame buildings for over 20 years in West Central Ohio, so it was surprising to many that he has recently made a switch to the K Building.
“The K Building is the perfect building,” say’s Ruchty, from his New Weston, Ohio office. “No longer are we calling out defects in solid sawn lumber, nor are we spending the time and expense required keeping the building square.”
That’s because the K Building steel frame tolerances are very precise and the bolted connections keep the building square and true. Beyond that, the flat concrete work can be done free of wood posts, then immediately erected and outfitted to the customer’s specifications.
“The time required to erect a K Building is about half that of a post frame building,” say’s Ruchty. “Our first K Building measured 98’ x 250’, our second was 98’ x 450’ and we have orders to build several more in 2010. Both of the buildings we’ve recently completed have received a great deal of attention. There are quite a few people talking about the advantages of the K Building and justifiably so.”
When Ruchty first started talking with Elgin Service Center about the K Building design it was imperative that the building maintain a bird proof design. While it’s almost impossible to prevent birds from entering any dairy facility, the new K Building design makes it very difficult for them to nest because flat surfaces conducive to nesting have either been removed or covered.
“My customers not only expect a high quality building, but also a building that will help promote a healthy environment for their dairy cattle and the K Building does just that,” say’s Ruchty. “Several key elements of the K Building frame changed to meet my bird proofing demands and the staff at Elgin Service Center were able to make that happen.”
In addition to post frame and K Buildings, Ruchty Builders also erect all steel buildings with help from jobsite foremen Tony Litmer, Jason Schlarman and Justin Fritz. While dairy barns represent the bulk of Ruchty’s business they are also very active in building live stock barns as well.
“We are a turnkey builder,” Ruchty emphasized. “Once we're finished with the project our customers are able to put their cattle in the their new building immediately and begin benefiting from their investment.”
Ruchty Builders has been very fortunate over the years to build facilities for some very prominent diary’s in Ohio. As a result, their business has been very good.
